A constable from the Upington stock theft unit is to appear in court on Friday after demanding two sheep from a suspected stock thief, the Hawks said on Friday.
Spokesman McIntosh Polela said the constable demanded the sheep, which he wanted “for the festive period”, in exchange for not arresting the suspect.
The constable had an arrest warrant for the man.
Polela said the suspect contacted the unit's commander, and co-operated with police in setting up a meeting with the constable, at which the sheep were handed over and the constable was then arrested. - Sapa
