PDP lacks competent presidential Candidate – Tinubu

aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday said the party lacked competent presidential aspirant for the 2011 elections.

“The PDP does not have competent presidential aspirant among them. Good luck is not elastic; there is a limit to good luck. This forthcoming election should be the end to recycling of old leaders, let us all sweep them out,” he said.

Tinubu, a leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria spoke at the ACN national convention in Benin, Edo State.

At the convention where Chief Bisi Akande was re-elected for another four-year as the party’s national chairman were delegates from all the six geo-political zones of the country, including host, Governor Adams Oshiomhole; his colleagues in Lagos, Ekiti and Osun states, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, respectively, among others.

Tinubu said the last 10 years of the PDP leadership in the country had not brought positive changes in the development of the nation.

He cited the example of the ACN victories in Edo, Ekiti and Osun states as evidence of the resilient position of the party.

The former governor, however, charged the youths of the nation to be ready to take over leadership positions at the federal and states level during the 2011 general elections.

He said, “Ten years ago, they introduced the politics of do-or-die, we said we will not die. I congratulate Edo, Ekiti and Osun for their resilience.

“The youths of this party and the nation at large must be ready for the forthcoming election. Mobilise your neigbours during the voter registration exercise and ensure that they vote during the elections. We are going to sweep Nigeria of this bad leadership.

“This is the time for us to remain focused to lead with our ideas and take over the leadership of the country because the Nigerian people are looking up to us as the party of ideas and progressives, this is convention that is well organised, peaceful and democratic.

“The ACN is symbol of progress and development and even in tribe we differ, in brotherhood we remain, today in the PDP after 12 years in power the country has remained static.”

In his comment, a presidential aspirant of the party, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, carpeted the PDP over consensus candidate, saying the arrangement did not extend to any other party.

He said, “I think former vice-president Atiku Abubakar can call himself a consensus candidate of the PDP. He can claim and say anything he wants, but the reality is that it is not so. It is not really a Northern consensus candidate but a PDP arrangement. Was General Muhammadu Buhari involved? He is a presidential aspirant as well. Was I involved? No, it is a PDP thing.”

Meanwhile, Akande secured 1,008 to remain the national chairman of the party. He had no contender. Other elected officials were Mr. Boss Mustapha (Deputy National Chairman), Senator Lawan Shuiabu (National Secretary) Alhaji Lai Mohammed (National Publicity Secretary), Mr. Kenneth Kobani (Treasurer) and Dr. Muiz Banire (National Legal Adviser) among others.
